Self-hosting overview
Run Vocivo on your own Ubuntu server: what you need, how installation works, the vocivo command, and what does and does not reach Vocivo.
Most companies let Vocivo host their workspace. Some need the phone system on a server they control: for data rules, for a network they already run, or because they have always run their own PBX. Self-hosting gives you the same Vocivo on your own server. This page is an overview; your licence comes with the full installation guide.

Hosting lists the regions available for hosted workspaces.
What you need
- A fresh server running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, in your building or with a cloud provider you choose.
- A static public IPv4 address, so your phone line provider can reach it.
- A domain name you control, with two DNS records pointing at the server.
- A Vocivo licence key.
- Someone comfortable running a Linux server day to day.
Installing, in outline
- Point the two DNS records at your server.
- Run the one-command installer from the installation guide, with your licence key.
- The installer sets everything up, including HTTPS certificates, and configures the server’s firewall. If your hosting provider has its own firewall in front of the server, open the same ports there.
- Sign in, create your workspace, and connect your phone line. The wizard gives you your server’s address to send to your provider.
- On each phone, choose My company’s server in the Vocivo app, or scan a setup QR code, which already carries the address.
Running it day to day
The vocivo command on the server does the routine jobs:
vocivo doctor- Checks the server’s health: services, firewall, disk space and how recent your last backup is.
vocivo updateandvocivo rollback- Install a new version, or go back to the previous one.
vocivo backup- Takes a backup. Copy backups off the server, and test a restore now and then.
What reaches Vocivo
Your call records, recordings, contacts and messages stay on your server. Two things do reach Vocivo:
- Licence check-ins: an instance ID, the version, and seat and active-user counts.
- Phone wake-ups: to ring a sleeping phone, a device token and minimal call information go through Vocivo’s push relay.
Who is responsible for what
Vocivo supplies the software, security fixes, the licence and the push relay. You look after the server, its uptime, DNS and backups, your phone line contract, and local telecom rules such as emergency calling, caller ID, recording consent and data retention.
